Basic barium dinonylnaphthalene sulfonate

Chemical Composition: Basic barium dinonylnaphthalene sulfonate in light mineral oil

General Description:

T705 is a high-molecular-weight basic barium dinonylnaphthalene sulfonate with a base number of approximately 45 mg KOH/g. It typically forms clear and stable solutions in petroleum oils and provides reserve alkalinity to neutralize corrosive organic or inorganic acids. These acids are formed during fuel combustion or oil oxidation, as well as from halogens used as scavengers for antiknock additives in motor fuels.

Solutions of T705 in petroleum oils remain quite stable, staying clear even when exposed to relative humidity of 80% or higher. Such humidity levels can cause partial or complete separation of petroleum sulfonates.

T705 is less corrosive to copper, copper alloys, and other non-ferrous metals compared to other barium sulfonates such as T705A and T705B. In some extreme pressure lubricant formulations, T705 has been found to have little to no adverse effect on load-carrying capacity, as measured by the Timken, FZG, and other extreme pressure tests.
